For a slice of home cooking with flair in the heart of Hurstbridge, locals stop by Greasy Zoes on Heidelberg-Kinglake Road. A homely, eclectic décor, reminiscent of grandma’s kitchen awaits with rustic wooden tables, earthy toned chairs and exposed brick, exuding a warm country vibe, inviting guests to linger over an ever-changing menu of house specialties. Everything is made in house from freshly baked sourdough to churned butter and soft cheese, and the open kitchen lets tasty aromas waft through the air, teasing diners with small bites such as pumpkin and goats cheese croquettes. For those with heartier appetites the duck leg and plum on a linseed crisp, or lamb, chickpeas, yoghurt and pomegranate may appeal, before finishing with a sweet treat such as a burnt fig and beer doughnut.
